The World Health Organisation has said short-sightedness, or myopia, already affects about 30 per cent of the world's population.

That figure is expected to rise to 50 per cent by 2050.

Myopia progression appears to be strongly influenced by excessive near-point work and prolonged dark exposure. Other factors include less outdoor activities, parents with myopia, etc.

One particular method of myopia control, ortho-k, has become increasingly popular during the last two decades. Let's take a look how does it work.

OrthoK lens (NightLens),  designed for wear while you sleep, gently molds your cornea into a shape that offers clear, sharp and comfortable vision upon removal in the morning.

While you sleep, the gentle pressure from your eyelid on the lens is transferred to your tear layer changing the shape of your cornea which improves your vision overnight. After removing the lenses in the morning, most patients go all day and into the evening without lenses or glasses. Some patients may go longer.

Each lens is made with special materials that keep your eye healthy and comfortable. Ortho K is approved for overnight wear. The therapy is non-surgical and reversible. Just stop nightly wear and your vision reverts to its original prescription.

With Ortho K treatment, no more glasses sliding down your nose or contacts drying your eyes. Clearly a better way to 'see the day'.
